What We Celebrate!

This 4th of July let us not forget what and why we are celebrating. It is not the loud explosions or the displays of bright colors, but of the human spirit yearning to be and becoming free. The ideal that we as a people have found a way that allows us to explore our greatest potential and encourage others to do the same.

The 4th is more than just another day in a year that we have cook outs, play patriotic music and light off fireworks. This is a day that a group of men gathered together and signed a document that caused them to become criminals and traitors. This document they signed was more than just the beginning of our Union but that of our freedoms and reaching into an unknown way of life.

This Declaration of Independence set us on a collision course with the most powerful navy and army of the time. It spelled out the grievances and atrocities that had been thrust upon a population. The simple fact that ones thoughts and speech could land you in prison was contrary to nature and to the soul of mankind to speak and hear the truth.

Our freedom of the press was once considered libelous and when asked why the truth should be shunned in such a manner, we were told that the truth was not a defense for libel. The truth shall set you free, or if the truth is never heard will imprison you. As a saying “If you tell a lie long enough, people will begin to believe it.” Only the truth will shorten the way of a long told tale

Great Men and Women have fought and died so that this great document would guarantee our Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. So much blood went to water the Tree of Liberty so that its branches will give life to so many others and provide shade in the heat of tyranny. We must tend it regularly or it may wither in the sun of discontent and complacency.

Given to so many to entrust with a Liberty so dear, we must hold on with determination, even unto death as has been before and will come again. “Give me liberty or give me death” is more than a motto, it is a declaration of our taking the reigns freedom and riding toward destiny. To take back that which is our birthright, to declare to the world “come here and be free or stay there and be slaves.”

Our land is one of opportunity, to explore and cherish, to create your own destiny with out the interference of those who think they know you better than yourself. To give into the natural yearning to be free of oppression, to innovate, to create, to be the best that God wants us to aspire too. Even those who do not believe in the higher cause you are encouraged to be the best.

To deny the greatness of this land is to spit in the face of Destiny and Liberty, to despoil all the works and the blood that was shed, so that we could be a light unto the world that lives in the darkness of oppression.

So this Independence day lift up a light and proudly proclaim that you love this land, that you are a part of this “grand experiment” into human innovation, bringing freedom to millions and millions more to come.

And may Almighty God bless our wonderful nation and put the fire of freedom into each and every one of us.
